Day of Birth Calculator

Enter your birthday to find the exact day of the week you were born on, along with what the old "Monday's Child" rhyme says about it and which weekday each of your next birthdays lands on.

What day of the week were you born?

Most of us know our birth date but not the day: was it a Monday, a Tuesday, a Saturday? Every calendar date lands on one fixed day of the week, so your answer never changes. Enter your date of birth above and the calculator finds it for you.

The "Monday's Child" rhyme

This traditional English nursery rhyme gives every weekday a character. The calculator shows your line automatically; here's the whole poem:

Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
And the child born on the Sabbath day
Is fair and wise and good in every way.

It's folklore for fun, not a forecast.

How the day of the week is worked out

The days of the week repeat in a fixed seven-day cycle, so every date in the Gregorian calendar belongs to exactly one weekday. Mathematicians worked out shortcuts to find it by hand, most famously Zeller's congruence and John Conway's Doomsday rule. This calculator gets the same answer using the calendar built into your browser, accounting for leap years and the century rules so the result is always exact.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out what day of the week I was born?
Enter your date of birth above and click Find my day. The calculator shows the weekday (Monday, Tuesday, and so on) you were born on.
How is the day of the week calculated from a date?
Every date in the Gregorian calendar falls on a fixed day of the week. This tool uses the calendar built into your browser, which agrees with hand methods like Zeller's congruence and the Doomsday rule and handles leap years correctly.
Why does my birthday fall on a different day each year?
A common year is 365 days, which is 52 weeks plus one day, so your birthday shifts forward one weekday each year. After a leap day (February 29), it jumps forward two days. That's why the calculator lists the weekday for each of your next birthdays.
Is it accurate for dates a long time ago?
Yes, for any date in the modern Gregorian calendar (used since 1582). Leap years and the century rules are handled automatically.
What does the day I was born mean?
The traditional “Monday's Child” rhyme gives each weekday a trait, for example “Wednesday's child is full of woe.” It's folklore for fun, not a real prediction.
Is my date of birth stored anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server or saved.
