What is a scientific calculator?

A scientific calculator is a calculator that goes beyond basic arithmetic to handle trigonometric functions, logarithms, exponents, roots and factorials. It's the tool you reach for in algebra, trigonometry, calculus, physics, chemistry and engineering. This online version works on any device, with no app to install, and computes everything in your browser.

How to use it

  • Tap the buttons or type with your keyboard. A live preview shows the result as you build the expression.
  • Use DEG / RAD to choose the angle mode for trig functions.
  • Press INV to switch to inverse functions (sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹, eˣ, 10ˣ).
  • Press = or Enter to evaluate, ⌫/Backspace to delete, AC/Esc to clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this scientific calculator free to use?
Yes, completely free, with no sign-up and no ads. It runs entirely in your browser, so there's nothing to install and nothing to pay.
Can I switch between degrees and radians?
Yes. Use the DEG / RAD toggle above the keypad. Trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan and their inverses) respect the selected angle mode.
What functions does it support?
Trigonometry (sin, cos, tan and inverses), logarithms (ln, log base 10, log base 2), exponents (xʸ, x², 10ˣ, eˣ), roots (√, ∛), factorials (n!), absolute value, percentages, and the constants π and e.
Can I use my keyboard?
Yes. Type digits and operators directly, press Enter (or =) to evaluate, Backspace to delete, and Esc to clear. You can also type ^ for powers and ! for factorials.
How do I calculate a power or a square root?
For powers, enter the base, press xʸ (or type ^), then the exponent, e.g. 2^10. For square root press √ which inserts sqrt(, then your number and a closing bracket, e.g. sqrt(144). The INV key reveals inverse functions like sin⁻¹ and eˣ.
Is my data private?
Completely. The calculator never sends anything to a server. All math is computed locally in your browser using a safe expression parser (no remote calls, no tracking).
